Yes, Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon’s (Charles Esten) car crash was the shocking end to the Nashville Season 1 finale, but let’s not forget what happened between Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and Will (Chris Carmack) a few episodes before the finale even aired.

After a night of songwriting (coupled with a few dozen beers) Will asks Gunnar about that great song he played he played at Tootsie’s — you know, the one he stole from his dead brother’s journal? — which sparks a deeper, emotional conversation about family and Scarlett (Clare Bowen).

Anywho, tipsy Will totally misread the signs and planted a big ‘ol kiss on Gunnar’s lips. It didn’t take long for Gunnar to back (read: run) away and kick Will out of his house. Needless to say, things ended awkwardly between the two buddies.

So where do they stand in Season 3?

Showrunner Dee Johnson tells TVLine that Will is going to spend time figuring out what his heart really wants, but she also notes that last season’s awkward kiss won’t come between him and Gunnar. “They worked through it, shockingly and admirably,” Dee says. “I don’t think we’re in a situation going forward where he’s going to be pining for Gunnar. They’re friends. Genuine friends.”

It’s pretty refreshing to hear that Gunnar and Will were able to work through the latter’s unwanted advances. Are you happy to hear that they are still pals is Season 3, or do you find that difficult to believe? Tell us your thoughts below!
