With last week’s epic return of the Southern drama Nashville, viewers are gearing up for a tumultuous season between country superstar Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) and rising star Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). But while Season 1 largely dealt with their struggles with each other, Season 2 is giving these ladies plenty to deal with. Check out the five things you should look out for in tonight’s new episode, “Never No More,” and then hit the comments!
1. Juliette is still competing with Rayna (obviously)
While Juliette made some desperate attempts to take some of the spotlight off Rayna while she was in a coma (remember that candlelight vigil?), now that the Queen of Country is awake and back on her feet, Juliette has even more to deal with. She can’t even escape questions about Rayna while promoting her new album on Conan. Needless to say, Juliette isn’t going to give up any time soon and even proposed her own near-death experience (but don’t worry, she settles for an emotional trip back to the trailer park she grew up in).
2. Will’s huge (and potentially life-altering) decision
After an epic, energy-filled performance by Will Lexington (Chris Carmack), which you will want to purchase on iTunes, he meets up with Jeff Fordham (Oliver Hudson), the new head of Edgehill Records. Jeff likes Will’s music so much that he gives Will something major to think about: to sign with Edgehill or to ally himself with Rayna and her new label Highway 65. Which will he choose? You’ll have to watch and find out!
3. Will has a run-in with a former flame (again)
Right after his impromptu meeting with Jeff, Will goes outside to discover a familiar face (one that we saw in the Season 2 premiere). Will confronts Brent (Derek Krantz), an old hookup from Will’s past, who proves to have a huge connection to Jeff. If you remember, Brent also showed up to Will and Gunnar’s house party in the previous episode and got Will all kinds of angry. We have a feeling things aren’t done between these two.
4. Tons of drama between Rayna and Deacon
Can’t these lovebirds just get along? While Rayna is trying to move on from the car accident, Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) is still living in the past and being his old mopey self. His injuries are still taking center stage, and we don’t know if he’ll ever be able to play the guitar again. While Deacon is still super depressed (about his baby daddy problems and the car accident), he’s taking his pain out on everyone, including Rayna and Scarlett O’Conner (Clare Bowen).
5. There’s a new superstar in town
Rayna and Juliette better look out! Layla (Aubrey Peeples), the runner-up of some fake reality singing show called American Hit-Maker, is poised to make a splash in Nashville. This “nothing to Nashville,” as Juliette calls her, has stars in her eyes and she has both Juliette and Rayna afraid for both their careers. Is Layla the new Juliette? Why does Jeff have it out for our favorite country singers? We’ll have to keep watching this season to see!
