After watching their electric chemistry on Friday Night Lights for five seasons, it’s natural to want co-stars Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler to reunite on Connie’s new show, Nashville.

But we can’t always get what we want. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Nashville’s “rayning” queen says that she’s eager to work with Kyle again but it won’t happen on the country-music soap.

Besides, Kyle’s busy anyway, having just scored the lead in Showtime drama pilot The Vatican.

“I'm so excited for him,” Connie enthuses. I always said he should play some kind of religious zealot. So hopefully he's playing some kind of religious zealot!”

After Kyle and Connie finished playing Eric and Tami Taylor on the NBC football drama — roles which earned them two Emmy nominations apiece and Kyle one win — Kyle appeared in a string of well-received movies: Super 8, Argo, and Zero Dark Thirty. Avid TV viewers may also remember him as the “Bomb Guy” from the Grey’s Anatomy Super Bowl episode.

But keep hope of a joint venture alive, Friday Night Lights fans.

“You're going to see both of us back on TV together,” Connie teases. “We keep talking about how we have to wait a certain amount of years and then we can go back to working together again.”

Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later!
