Although she plays soft-spoken blonde sweetheart Scarlett O’Connor on Nashville, that doesn’t mean Clare Bowen’s a quiet one in real life. We’ve been a little confused about where the show is going next, and we’re glad to have a little clarification straight from the actress behind Scarlett’s scarlet lips.
Recently, Scarlett and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and, separately, Avery (Jonathan Jackson) have all gotten noticed by big name producers and seem to be on their way towards fame and fortune. In Avery’s case, it’s cost him his band and his integrity. What will it cost Scarlett and Gunnar? And will they ever cross paths with the show’s famous dueling divas, Rayna (Connie Britton) and Juliette (Hayden Panettiere)?
“Everybody is going to crash into each other. You got a taste of that at the Ryman when Rayna and Juliette were performing “Wrong Song.” More of that is to be expected,” Clare tells Vulture of Season 1, Episode 7, “Lovesick Blues,” when the two leading ladies sang the duet for the first time.
But just because a whole mess of other characters gathered to watch the concert doesn’t mean they are all going to interact — or does it? “You gotta think back to the pilot, and I can’t say more than that,” Clare says mysteriously.
Is she referring to producer Watty White stumbling upon Scarlett and Gunnar singing their cover of the Civil Wars’ “If I Didn’t Know Better” at the Bluebird Cafe? “Yeah, you’re on the right track,” Clare confirms.
Nashville rarely does anything too quickly, so how will they ease into it? We’re thinking a Rayna-Scarlett duet would be chart topping magic. For those of you who saw Season 1, Episode 11, "You Win Again," you probably noticed that Avery felt compelled to hit on Juliette despite their status differences. We can’t help but think that might just turn into something. After all, both artists are cocky, damaged, and quick to find comfort in a stranger’s arms...
