Even before Nashville premiered last month, Hayden Panettiere (Juliette Barnes) has been fighting off rumors that her character is based on Taylor Swift. The more Hayden denied it in the press, the more it sounded like barbs thrown at the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer.

“I ran up to her and I was like, ‘I hope you don’t take it personally or take offense to it, this is not what I meant,’” Hayden told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show this morning. “And she was like, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Then she watched the show.”

So what does the country music sweetheart have to say about Hayden’s performance on the show?

“She came up and she was raving about it to me, which was very flattering,” said the actress.

Hayden also said portraying Juliette hits home for her in a different way. In Nashville’s pilot, when Juliette meets Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) for the first time, Juliette passive aggressively points out the older singer’s age and says, “My momma was one of your biggest fans, she said she’d listen to you while I was still in her belly.”

“I just grew up watching people behave that way and was taught to never ever behave that way,” Hayden explained. “I kept apologizing to [Connie] after they yelled ‘Cut!’”
