Considering the beautiful Connie Britton plays the country queen with a heart made of platinum and the spent dreams of lesser commoners on Nashville, it’s hard to imagine that she and Rayna Jaymes aren’t straight-up twins. But since legit actresses aren’t always chart-topping singers a la Disney princesses, it’s a fair question whether Ms. B can sing.

Short answer? Yes. Yes she can. Because, as we mentioned in our therapist-prescribed riff sessions, Connie Britton is our spirit animal. And our spirit animals all sing like chart-topping stars. But before Nashville, before the days Tami Taylor became our goal of “woman we want to be forever,” Connie was just another actress looking for her big break. And, that requires mad chops.

Back in her theater days, Connie sang and danced (pause. Imagine her dancing on a small community theater stage. Reboot dreams of stardom). But when she was hired to play Rayna, it was without series creator Callie Khouri ever hearing her sing. Callie’s hubs, Nashville producer / music director T-Bone Burnett wasn’t concerned, saying, “All girls can sing.”

He even told Connie, “I figured, Look, she’s going to go on national television, she’s not going to make a total fool of herself. She must think she can handle it.” With the help of a voice coach, Connie developed her TV singing voice — and it’s a good one. See? Connie Britton can do no wrong. Just ask us.
