Natalie Cole’s Son Found Dead at 39
39-year-old Robert Yancy, son of “This Will Be” singer Natalie Cole, has been found dead in his apartment, according to new reports.
While toxicology test are being performed, law enforcement presently believe he died of natural causes.
Robert’s body was found Monday night in his San Fernando Valley apartment when a friend went to check on him after not hearing from Natalie’s only child for several days, according to TMZ.
Family members claim police contacted them at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to inform them of his death, believing he died of a heart attack while alone in his home.
As of now, police have listed the cause of death as natural causes, but that could possibly change once an autopsy and toxicology tests are completed.
Robert’s mother Natalie fought drug addiction throughout much of her adult life until her 2015 passing from congestive heart failure.
Family members say that Yancy never abused drugs and was “turning his life around.”
Robert’s father, gospel musician Marvin Yancy, died of a heart attack in 1985.
That combined with his mother’s heart failure leads many to believe heart disease may have run in the family.
Shortly after the 2016 Grammys, Robert shared his disappointment that his mother wasn’t given the star-studded dedication pop icon David Bowie received.
In an interview with Inside Edition, Robert called it “insulting” that his mother received nothing more than a passing mention after winning nine Grammys over the span of her career.
David Bowie won just one.
We send our condolences to the Cole and Yancy families at this time.
