Nobody is safe on The Originals. Each week the sophomore CW series reminds us of the high stakes the warring supernatural factions — vampires, witches, and werewolves alike — face while fighting for supremacy over New Orleans. So far much of Season 2 has focused on the Mikaelson family, but that is about to shift when the show picks back up tonight, January 19.

Nathan Parsons — who plays werewolf hunk Jackson and also stars on Amazon’s new series, Point of Honor — exclusively opened up to Wetpaint Entertainment about Jackson’s upcoming marriage storyline with Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin), potential flashbacks for Jackson, and whether or not he thinks Jackson will survive into Season 3.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Will we see Jackson interacting with anyone outside the werewolf community? He seems to stay away from other supernatural factions.

Nathan Parsons: He does tend to stick with his people. I think it’s a trust issue. You can't trust vampires or witches at this point. Each one is trying to destroy and/or use the wolves in one way or another. Unfortunately for Jackson, there's no way to avoid the inevitable collision with Klaus and Elijah — its just a matter of time.

Will Jackson get any flashbacks? What era of your character’s life would you like to see explored?

I would love some flashbacks! Personally, I think it would be amazing to see the young Jackson from when he triggered his curse. In this lore, to do that you have to kill someone. I believe it happened for Jackson very young, probably around 10-12 years old. It would give us a chance to see that this nice, noble guy definitely has a pretty dark side in there somewhere.

Elijah told Hayley to marry Jackson but it’s clear her heart isn’t in it. Can the wedding ceremony even work if her heart’s not in it?

Time will tell. Jackson's not that bad. Is there a chance Hayley can eventually love him too? We'll see.

How will Jackson react to Hayley hooking up with Elijah? He must see it as a huge betrayal, right?

Of course! But at the same time, Jackson isn't stupid. He knows Hayley has a thing for Elijah and she already hooked up with Klaus. He's not delusional enough to think that just by agreeing to this wedding she's suddenly gonna do a 180. He sees Hayley just as she is and loves her regardless.

The synopsis for Episode 11 says there are some intense rituals leading up to the marriage. Is it safe to say it won’t be a smooth trip to the altar?

Oh yeah. Thats putting it mildly!

Does Jackson know more about Hayley’s family history than he’s letting on? Will we learn more about his backstory?

Yes he does know more. And yes, we'll get a little peek into it coming up!

We’ll soon meet Jackson’s grandmother (played by Debra Mooney) — what can you tease about her?

She is awesome. Definitely the kind of woman you don't wanna mess with. I can't wait for her stuff to air!

You’ve played a vampire [on HBO’s True Blood] and now a werewolf — which do you prefer?

I prefer werewolves just because I find the descent into your animalistic side very interesting. People tend to romanticize vampires more, which I don't understand. What’s so appealing about somebody sucking your blood? But werewolves? Those guys are crazy and wild and loyal and passionate. To me that sounds more appealing to portray.

What are the chances of Jackson surviving and making it to Season 3? Congrats on the renewal, by the way!

Haha, if I were a gambling man I'd keep my money in my pocket. In this world, good guys don't seem to last too long, but we'll see. Maybe if this ritual works and Jackson gets a little more spine he'll manage to claw his way into another year!

The Originals airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
