NeNe Leakes Talks DWTS Team Dance, Argentine Tango, Judge She Wants to Impress

NeNe Leakes may have lost her friends on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, but at least she’s making new ones on Dancing With the Stars Season 18.

For Week 7’s Latin Night, NeNe and Tony Dovolani have two dances — an Argentine Tango, and a Team Vida dance with James Maslow, Peta Murgatroyd, Charlie White, and Sharna Burgess.

NeNe and Tony talked to Access Hollywood during rehearsals for tonight’s Monday, April 28 show. NeNe said, "I just want us to be able to [show] our technique is a whole lot better. I want to really work on my technique and really want to impress Len."

As she said "Len," Tony said it at the same time. NeNe said the head judge is definitely pretty tough, but she also laughed, so it sounds like they have some kind of a plan to win him over. Tony said, "We're definitely going to try to pull all the stops on the Argentine Tango." But he doesn't want to do all technique and sacrifice the character NeNe brings. So he's aiming for a balance that can please both Len and the audience.

In terms of the team dance, Tony said it's been going great and they have good teammates. "Sharna and Peta are excellent dancers," NeNe said. "I love them. They're fabulous." She said she's not sure what the usual challenges are in a team dance, but "they are helping camouflage [weaknesses] and bring out your strengths, so I think that's the way to do it when you're working in a team." She quickly added, "I don't say anything" during rehearsals, which is also probably helpful.

Tony said, "What's really nice is the girls work with NeNe and I work with the boys." He said it's a good collaboration, and they all know what's at stake since a high score is important. They are also up against a team with four couples, not three, including a few of season's leaderboard-toppers.

Watch the video below for Tony's great reaction to having Ricky Martin as guest judge, and his reasoning for why he wants to have another fight (aka "bump") with NeNe.

Are you rooting for NeNe and Tony tonight, or do you think this might be their last time on the dance floor?

DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
