This Switch-Up twist is already nothing but drama, and it hasn’t even happened yet!
Dancing With the Stars Season 18 is giving viewers the opportunity to switch-up the partnerships for a week, with the option for the celebs to stay in their new pairs going forward. According to Cheryl Burke, this is happening Week 3; if so, it may be tied to the surprise game-changing twist thing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews mentioned would be coming at the start of the Week 2 show. Maybe that’s when they’ll task viewers to choose the new couples.
Anyway, no one in the cast — celeb or pro — seems happy about breaking up the fledgling partnerships. NeNe Leakes talked to USA Today about the twist. They noted how America can pick a different partner for her, so who would she love to be paired with? “Yeah, I'm so not excited about that,” NeNe said. “My only pick would be Maks because he's the only tall one. I hope they give me him and not Derek because we would look like fools.”
Yeah, we were wondering how the height issue would come into play. NeNe is about 5’10” without heels, so she would be a good height match with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who is 6’2”. NeNe’s current partner, Tony Dovolani, is said to be 6’1,” so they are a pretty good match. Derek Hough and Mark Ballas are both on the less tall side, although Derek is a bit taller than his buddy — and he does have five Mirror Ball trophies. This may actually be the first time someone has said they hope they don’t get paired with Derek!
Who would you like to see NeNe paired with for a week? The options, as far as we know, are Maks, Derek, Mark, Val Chmerkovskiy or Henry Byalikov.
DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
