Dancing With the Stars 2014: NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani React to Negative Video Package

Image is everything on Dancing With the Stars, and a negative rehearsal package can potentially push voters away from voting for a couple. That’s the kind of thing that worries Tony Dovolani and upset him after Monday’s Season 18 Disney Night.

His video package with NeNe Leakes showed them clash during practice, apparently from jealousy, insecurity and awkwardness after the Switch up. (NeNe got her highest score to that point with Derek Hough; Tony and Candace Cameron Bure placed at the bottom of the leaderboard.) It led to some high emotion in the ballroom, even though NeNe ended up getting her highest score yet with Tony, during her villainous Week 5 Cruella De Vil Foxtrot.

After the show, Tony talked to On the Red Carpet about the rehearsal drama. "Listen, the Switch Up was hard because you get back together and it gets a little bit sensitive,” Tony said. “Derek did a great job with her and I couldn't be more proud of her. And then we hit a little rough patch, every couple goes through that, they just decided to show ours. But that was not our week. Our week was about our dance and how well she did at the end of it. That was the only thing that I was a little bit upset about, why didn't you show the fun that we had?"

They love working together and they're stronger because of it, he said. NeNe said they weren't happy about the package and she could tell Tony wasn't happy while it was playing because he was watching it. She knew the video wouldn't be positive so she didn't focus too much on it while it was playing.

Now they are just ready to move forward. Ironically, after all the drama, NeNe and Tony did better on Week 5 than they even hoped. She said she was aiming for one nine and she got four. Tony liked how the judges recognized NeNe's hard work (although he disagreed with Carrie Ann Inaba that the Switch Up was the best thing that happened to them).

NeNe just wants to kill it next week. She has that competitive spirit and an eye on that Mirror Ball trophy. "If I made it to the Finals,” she gushed to OTRC, “oh my God, I would just lose my weave!" Ha! Tony said he’d run out and get it for her.

What did you think of NeNe and Tony’s rehearsals video and dance? Did you already figure that two minute spat didn’t really represent their week or did all the drama turn you off?

DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
