5 People Other Than Russell Brand Who Should Host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards
Color us unshocked. It was announced today that actor/comedian Russell Brand would be hosting MTV’s 2012 Movie Awards on June 3.
Known largely for his high profile divorce from singer Katy Perry and his lady-loving ways, Russell has previously hosted the MTV Video Music Awards twice. Which begs the question: Why ask him to host another awards show? Sure, the Rock of Ages star is comically nimble, and his unpredictable statements keep audience members guessing. But we think there are other people who could do just as good a job, if not better, than the soon-to-be ex-Mr. Perry.
Ryan Gosling: We’d love more than anything to see our favorite actor (and beloved internet meme) take to the MTV stage, although security at the Gibson Amphitheatre should be advised that collective swooning could be a safety issue during the show.
Kristen Wiig: With her well-honed talent for topical humor, we have a feeling the Saturday Night Live comedienne and Bridesmaids scribe would be the perfect woman for the job.
Zooey Deschanel: The New Girl star has the right mix of quirk, comedy, and glamour to kick butt as an awards show host. And did we mention she can sing? (Yes, we’d take any excuse for a Joseph Gordon Levitt cameo.)
Jason Segel: How could you not love an actor who can hang with the Muppets? Jason has certainly come a long way from his Freaks and Geeks days, and we think he’d make a great host.
Jon Hamm: The Mad Men star might have a tendency to put his foot in his mouth, but his comedic chops are a proven thing thanks to his hilarious Bridesmaids role, guest stints on 30 Rock, and a hosting gig on SNL. Now that he’s also dispensing advice to teenage girls, Jon’s got practically the entire American demographic covered.
