Alicia Silverstone on Why She Pre-Chews Her Child's Food

It’s natural, y'all!

Alicia Silverstone, who got more media attention than she bargained for when she posted a video of herself pre-chewing food for her 1-year-old son, Bear Blu, to her website, recently explained the odd parenting tactic to Entertainment Tonight.

"It's a part of the weaning process, so while I'm still breastfeeding it's just a way to introduce him to food when he doesn't have teeth [...] and he can't chew," Alicia said.

"I can understand that it would make some people feel uncomfortable, possibly, because it's new to them," she continued. "But I do want to let you know that this has been going on for thousands of years — still going on all over the place — and it's natural."

Alicia is all about natural living: She and her husband, Christopher Jarecki, and son live in an eco-friendly home in L.A., and in 2009 the staunch animal rights activist released a guide to vegan nutrition, The Kind Diet.

The famous Earth Mother is currently guest-starring on ABC's Suburgatory, opposite former Clueless co-star Jeremy Sisto.
