Anna Gunn: Skyler Is "Trapped" During Breaking Bad Season 5 — Exclusive
Breaking Bad's fifth and final season premieres on July 15, and we can't wait to see where the riveting AMC drama goes after the explosive Season 4 finale.
Fortunately, Wetpaint Entertainment had a chance to catch up with Anna Gunn at the Critics Choice Television Awards, and she dished to us about what we can expect from Skyler during Season 5.
Wetpaint Entertainment: What is up next for Skyler on the show?
Anna Gunn: From everything that she learned last year, she is trying to survive, she’s trying to stay strong, she’s trying to keep the lie straight that she’s told to her family and friends. She’s so trapped and so stuck by what Walt’s put her through that we start to watch her really start to break. She starts to unravel.
Does it ever get difficult to go play that everyday and then have to step out of it when you’re done?
You know, it is at times, it really is. But I have the best cast in the world. Bryan Cranston keeps me laughing, I mean we’re in the middle of doing a scene sometimes and it’s just like stuff that is ripping our guts out and we cut and he makes me laugh. And the crew, it’s just amazing.
What is one thing you love about playing Skyler?
The writing, I mean the writing is so phenomenal. I always feel that an actor is only as good as the writing they're given and we are blessed with such extraordinary story lines and extraordinary characters. And sometimes even the unspoken things, the things that the characters can’t even think to say or don’t say anything at all, but you just read what is going on with them — that is so rich. And also, you know what I love about Skyler? She’s strong. She’s not somebody who is going to hover in the corner and fall apart and start crying. She stands her ground and keeps going no matter what. I love that.
Can you give me any spoilers, something to go on?
Oh my gosh I wish! Well you know what, as much as Walt and Skyler broke apart and you saw them go in opposite directions last year, I feel like they are reaching their hands out through the rubble, trying.
There’s been chatter online about a possible Breaking Bad movie, would you be into that?
Oh yeah, of course we would! That is a new thing that people have been talking about. You know when we watch the episodes that premier on the big screen I can totally see it. The writing is so brilliant that I think it lends itself to being an amazing movie as well.
Breaking Bad Season 5 will premiere on Sunday, July 15 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
