By now, you may have heard of HBO’s upcoming Girls, which premieres on Sunday, April 15 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. The rave reviews keep piling in, and the clever poster and series of trailers promoting the show are everywhere. So we thought we’d summarize what all the fuss is about here.

Who’s Lena Dunham? You can read our favorite things about her here, can watch her first feature film, Tiny Furniture, on Netflix Instant, see how she whipped a douchebag producer into shape, or read this very thorough profile about her, which does a nice job pointing out how her imperfections make her close to perfect. At least as far as voices of generations go.

Who’s Allison Williams? Here is how Allison Williams, who is Brian Williams’ daughter and plays Marnie, got an audition — apparently producer Judd Apatow saw this clip of Allison singing “Nature Boy” to the theme from Mad Men, and told Lena she should have her audition for Marnie.

Who’s Zosia Mamet? These are just a few of the reasons we love Zosia Mamet, who plays Shoshanna on Girls.

Who’s Jemima Kirke? Rounding out the cast’s famous familial connections, Jemima is the daughter of Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke, which makes her rock royalty. She played Lena Dunham’s character’s reckless childhood friend Charlotte in Tiny Furniture, and much about her Girls character Jessa will be based on Charlotte. Jessa is described in W as “peripatetic pot stirrer: When she’s not bedding a girlfriend’s beau, she might be found, say, ‘shucking pearls’ in Bali.” And yes, her accent is real. Fun fact about Jemima: she spent her teen years as a wild child playing with fellow free spirit Paz de la Huerta. But now she lives a quiet life in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.

Where do the Girls live? Check out our report on where the girls and guys on Girls are supposed to live. Decently realistic places!

So, what was that about rave reviews? Daily Beast calls it “the best new TV show of 2012,” the New York Times says it’s “worth all the fuss,” and the Hollywood Reporter says it’s a “brilliant gem.” Even Esquire says that guys should watch it “because it’s funny.”

Let us know if you’ll be watching in the comments!
