Dane Cook Gets Groans For Tasteless Joke About Dark Knight Massacre: What Did He Say?
With the Aurora, Colo., tragedy having happened only one week ago — leaving 12 dead, 58 injured, and many still hospitalized — comedian Dane Cook opted to use the Dark Knight Rises massacre as material for his stand-up routine at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles.
Dane’s bit, which was reported by The Daily Caller, went as follows:
So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie ... And I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap — Yeah, spoiler alert — and I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like, 'Ugh, f*cking shoot me.'
If you’re thinking this is too soon, you’re not the only one — much of the audience groaned at the joke, though some did laugh..
The comedian later took to Twitter to apologize, writing, "I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened. I made a bad judgment call with my material last night & regret making a joke at such a sensitive time. My heart goes out to all of the families & friends of the victims."
