Daniel Tosh’s Rape Joke Gets Slammed on Twitter by Martha Plimpton
Comedian Daniel Tosh — star of Comedy Central’s Tosh.0 — has made a career out of being an unapologetic, politically incorrect jerk. So when he took to Twitter on July 10 to make amends for making a rape joke directed at a female audience member during his live act, pretty much everyone took notice — including Raising Hope actress Martha Plimpton.
The incident occurred at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles during Daniel’s bit about how “rape jokes are always funny.” A young female audience member interjected, “Actually rape jokes are never funny!” After being heckled, Daniel reportedly said, “Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl got raped by like, five guys right now? Like right now? What if a bunch of guys just raped her…” Feeling “stunned” and “humiliated,” the girl and her friend left — though she blogged about the experience that night.
After the post went viral, Daniel used his Twitter to say, “All the out of context misquotes aside, I’d like to sincerely apologize.” Adding, “The point I was making before I was heckled is there are awful things in the world but you can still make jokes about them. #deadbabies”
Martha fired back, tweeting, “@danieltosh I can't wait to hear your ‘lynching is funny!’ bit. Or would that be a little TOO dangerous?” No reply from Daniel, but we wonder what you think — was Daniel’s rape joke funny or did he cross the line?
