The Capeside boys have switched roles! Season 2 of Dawson’s Creek has been quite the roller coaster for Joey’s (Katie Holmes) two leading men. The usually daffy Pacey (Joshua Jackson) has found inspiration in new girlfriend Andie (Meredith Monroe), and Dawson (James Van Der Beek) has spiralled out of control in the wake of his breakup with Joey (even though a movie came out of it).
While we were initially into the idea of soulmate-y love à la Joey and Dawson, Pacey’s evolution from insensitive jokester to protective boyfriend has forced us to make MUCH more room for him in our DC-obsessed hearts. Not to mention he’s finally “finding” himself, tapping into all the potential his father made him doubt he had.
So now the dilemma. Every professional TV junkie knows that you can’t love them both; lines must be drawn, loyalties must be made. And brooding Dawson, despite his extended bouts of teen angst, is the best friend we want to watch movies with and maybe fall for in the long run. But now that Pacey has been exposed as a big ol’ softie, we’re beginning to realize that nothing says love quite like “I hate you” — at least in TV land. Sure, Pacey still has his stubborn moments that can drive a girl crazy, but he’s definitely a keeper.
So who’s captured your heart: deep-thinking, creative, caring Dawson, or multilayered, passionate, loyal Pacey?
