Desperate Housewives Series Finale: Where Did the Housewives End Up?
After eight seasons, countless murders, a lot of sex, several affairs, one environmental terrorist, ABC's hit soap, Desperate Housewives, left Wisteria Lane for good.
We watched as Lynette, Bree, Gabby, and Susan grew closer and stronger over eight seasons and last night’s series finale left “the girls” in a very different place from where they started.
Bree Van De Kamp survived her husband’s death (and dating the man responsible), a wayward daughter, alcoholism, launching and then losing her own business, and even a murder trial. In last night’s finale, Bree was saved by Karen McCluskey when Karen admitted to a murder she didn’t commit to save Bree and all of the girls from jail. Bree ended up dating and marrying her trial lawyer and running for State Senate … on the Republican ticket of course!
Lynette Scavo started off as a cranky mom of three who was desperate to return to work, but forced to care for her children. At the end of season 7, we were devastated when she and her husband Tom decided to divorce. Fortunately, they got back together in the final episode in a slightly cheesy, but incredibly romantic way. Lynette and Tom moved to New York City so Lynette could be the CEO of Katherine Mayfair’s company. In a brief flash forward, we saw Lynette — grey-haired and feisty as ever — “playing” with her six grandchildren.
Gabrielle Solis probably made the longest journey on the show. At first, she was a selfish and spoiled former model having an affair with her young gardener. In the course of the show, she matured as she had two girls, discovered one was switched at birth, helped her husband recover from blindness (yeah, we’re still trying to figure that one out), and escaped from her terrifying and abusive stepfather.
In the finale, she got a huge promotion as VP of sales for a clothing store and eventually made her own clothing website and TV show on the Home Shopping Network. She and Carlos bought an extremely expensive home in California and fought happily ever after.
Susan Delfino (Mayer) went from being a recently divorced, overly emotional single mom to being a recently widowed, overly emotional single mom. She was the first to officially move off Wisteria Lane to live with her daughter Julie and help raise her new grandchild. Her exit in last night’s finale featured all of the deceased members of Wisteria Lane watching over her while wearing white. It was a bit jarring and creepy to see all the characters — good and bad — the show had gone through and lost.
Notably missing, of course, was the deceased Edie Britt. Guess Nicollette Sheridan was a little busy with her real-life court case against the show’s creator, Marc Cherry. But everyone else was there, including the woman who started it all — Mary Alice Young. Her fatal gunshot started the housewives journey and we’ve enjoyed every second of it.
