full size Jessica Simpson Co-Hosts Good Morning America in NYC on September 11, 2012 and Reveals Post-Baby Weight Loss

Child welfare groups around the world seem to think that Jessica Simpson’s baby girl, Maxwell Drew, should cover up.

After appearing on Katie Couric’s new talk show, Katie, to debut her 40-pound weight loss, the singer was criticized for sharing a photo of her daughter in a yellow knitted bikini. During the interview, Jessica showed viewers the picture, with Maxwell wearing one knitted piece over her diaper.

Many internet commenters, however, didn’t find the baby bikini pic quite as adorable as Katie's audience did.

"It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini," Claude Knights, director of British child welfare group Kidscape, told the Daily Mail. "Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and manners are copied widely."

According to Knights, Jess’s choice to put her baby in a two-piece was “totally inappropriate.”

"It is hoped that parents will understand that 'baby bikinis' are totally inappropriate and that they contribute to the sexualization and commercialization of childhood,” he said. “We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children's early years."

What do you think of the bikini backlash? Was Jessica’s photo inappropriate or no big deal?
