At the beginning of 500 Days of Summer, the writer warns us that this is not a love story. But despite the honesty from the get-go, we still rooted for Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel to be together, mostly because they were so darn cute.

And that’s sort of how we feel about these quirky friends in real life.

Zooey recently got divorced, and Joseph’s not seeing anyone that we know of, so can’t these two crazy kids just work it out and make adorable indie babies?

“We’ve been friends for 10 years,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt told Playboy Magazine. “She’s turned me on to so many movies and so much good music. It’s fun just to have conversations, watch movies with her.”

Come on, Joseph!

Well, he didn’t rule out the possibility completely. We have our fingers crossed that these two will wake up and smell the roses soon.
