Legendary Sitar Player Ravi Shankar, Father of Norah Jones, Dies at Age 92
Ravi Shankar just got a 2013 Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album, so his legacy is still going strong.
The 92-year-old Indian sitar player died Tuesday in San Diego. He had suffered upper respiratory and heart problems and had undergone heart-valve replacement surgery last week.
Ravi was the father of singer Norah Jones, as well as two other children — including another daughter, Anoushka Shankar, who was also nominated in the same Grammy category.
Ravi famously taught George Harrison of The Beatles the ways of the sitar in the 1960s, helping to evolve the band's sound. Harrison called him “the godfather of world music."
May the legend rest in peace!
