Michael Jackson Returns — to Hawk Pepsi?
The King of Pop is set to make a comeback as the king of a very different kind of pop.
On May 3, PepsiCo Inc. announced a new “Live For Now” ad initiative, centered on the late, great Michael Jackson, reports The Wall Street Journal.
As one unique aspect of the campaign, which is part of a larger push to overtake Coke’s longtime reign over the soft-drink market, U.S. customers will be able to buy 16-ounce collectible cans of Pepsi with Jackson’s likeness on them. They can then use their phones to scan a code on the can to download a remix of one of his tracks from Bad.
We predict we’ll be drinking a lot of Pepsi.
MJ first partnered with PepsiCo back in 1983, which led to an unfortunate accident the following year, when Michael suffered severe burns as a result of a pyrotechnics accident during a commercial shoot.
Let’s keep the fire to a minimum this time around, OK, guys?
