New Girl Spoilers: Jess's New Man and Nick's "Surprising" Love Interest
Love is in the air!
New Girl returns tonight with the all-new episode “Injured,” but we have a whole lot more to look forward to than Nick’s (Jake Johnson) “football” injury, his visit to the OB/GYN, and an impromptu musical number.
During the show’s PaleyFest panel Monday night, the cast spilled on everything from Jess’s (Zooey Deschanel) hunky new guy to Nick’s new ladyfriend. Read on for the reveals!
Jess's Fine Fella
In an upcoming episode, Jess will jump into a relationship with Russell, the father of one of her sixth grade students. Zooey spilled, "He is sophisticated and debonair and fancy and he, like, engages me in playful banter [...]. We end up starting a little thing, a little something-something over the course of some episodes."
So, who will play this delectable specimen of man? None other than sexy Dermot Mulroney. But there’s one slight hitch: Jeanne Tripplehorn (of Big Love fame) is also set to guest star as Russell’s ex.
In a fun twist, Nick is drawn to Russell as well. "I think Nick falls in love with him. [...] Russell sweeps Nick Miller off his feet," said Jake.
Nick's New Love
But Russell isn’t Nick’s real love interest. Jake teased that Nick will soon move on from his failed relationship with Julia (guest star Lizzy Caplan), and that his next gal may be a bit of a shock to New Girl fans. "It was revealed in the script we were shooting right now, and I looked at the writers and I went, 'Really?'” he said. “I was very surprised. It's consistent in that it works with the character, but I think it's pretty surprising."
Who could it be? Jess?
Cece and Schmidt Are Outed
Cece (Hannah Simone) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) can’t keep their sexcapades a secret forever, and Jess will learn the truth in an upcoming episode.
"We've seen Cece take care of Jess, Jess take care of Cece; they've always had each other's backs. But this is the first time that Cece has kept something from Jess," revealed Hannah. "She feels a little betrayed. They really have to deal with it." Hopefully their friendship will survive... as well as Cece’s whatever-it-is with Schmidt.
