Old Books Get a Fifty Shades of Grey Twist: Publisher Sexes Up the Classics
Have you ever wanted to read a sexy version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? No? Well, you’re probably not alone, but that’s where Clandestine Classics comes in.
The e-book publisher is hoping to fill a void we never knew existed by releasing five reworked versions of classic novels — Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet, Northanger Abbey, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It’s kinda like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but with more sex, less gore.
The love scenes and sexual tension in the books (real or imagined) will no longer be hinted at or glossed over entirely; in these sexed-up reimaginings, the main characters get it on — Fifty Shades of Grey-style.
The publisher writes (via The Hollywood Reporter), "The old-fashioned pleasantries and timidity have all been stripped away, quite literally. You didn’t really think that these much loved characters only held hands and pecked cheeks did you? Come with us, as we embark on a breathtaking experience — behind the closed bedroom doors of our favorite, most-beloved British characters."
For example, Jane and Mr. Rochester give themselves over to “a journey of the senses that would scandalize society,” and Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes steam up 221B Baker Street as a gay couple.
If you’ve already plowed through Fifty Shades of Grey, why not travel back in literary time with Clandestine? The books will hit the electronic shelves on July 30.
