OMG! River Phoenix's Final Film Ready to Be Released — 19 Years After He Died
It's about freakin' time.
Beloved actor River Phoenix died of a drug overdose at age 23 outside the Viper Room nightclub in L.A. That was in 1993. Almost 20 years later, his final film, Dark Blood, is ready to be released — hopefully at the Dutch Film Festival in September.
You can watch a trailer for the film here at On the Red Carpet. It was put together by Dutch director George Sluizer and editor Michiel Reichwein. Apparently the film was 80 percent finished at the time of River's death and his brother, Joaquin Phoenix, was asked to do the voiceover as River's character, Boy.
According to OTRC, Dark Blood follows the story of Boy, a hermit living on a nuclear testing site in the desert who is waiting for the end of the world. His wait is interrupted by a Hollywood couple (Judy Davis and Jonathan Pryce) seeking shelter. Boy holds them captive when he decides he could create a better world with the wife.
Watch the trailer here. Man, it’s good to see River again. So young. So gorgeous. So alive. (And kind of looking like Eminem, in a way, with that short dark hair. No?)
