Penélope Cruz Is the Sexiest Mario We've Ever Seen (VIDEO)

Penélope Cruz is the next Mario? 

Calm down, fanboys: it’s just an advertisement for Super Mario Bros. 2, an upcoming game for the Nintendo 3DS, which was posted to YouTube this week.

In the ad, Penélope sits poolside outside some seriously swanky digs, fastidiously playing the game and even talking to Mario: “Come on, my friend. You can do it!” 

Then, out steps her clone, younger sister Mónica, with another 3DS.  After they trade playful taunts, Penélope, totally confident in her gamer-girl abilities, revives some long-standing bet between the sibs. But it’s the junior Cruz who wins, telling Penélope, “You know what you have to do...”

And then for the money shot: at the end of the ad, Penélope is decked out in the pudgy plumber’s full garb, right down to the handlebar moustache: “Buongiorno,” she says, greeting a grocery store clerk. “Can I have a mushroom, please?” Then she trails off in unintelligible-but-clearly-resentful mutters as Mónica giggles in the background.

This commercial is ridiculously endearing, but we’re amazed by how much we’re seeing double. Are they sisters or twins?  (Mónica is an actress, too, and the two sisters have designed clothing together for Mango.)

Penélope is not the first celeb to shill for Nintendo recently: Beyoncé, Robin Williams, and Kim Cattrall have all filmed ads for the Japanese video game giant.

Sure, it may not be a full-fledged movie, but with Penélope’s acting cred and the way she rocks those overalls, we’d be open to that.
