Donna is one of our favorite characters on USA's Suits, so we were thrilled to get a chance to talk with Sarah Rafferty about the character. After dishing about the big twist that rocked the Suits world on Season 2, Episode 4: "Discovery," Sarah chatted with us about Donna's romantic life, what what we can expect from her friendships in the future, and much more.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Is there any romance coming up for Donna?
Sarah Rafferty: You know, I'm going to call [creator] Aaron [Korsh] and I'm going to ask him, because you are not the first to ask me that. What we do have is little hints on her romantic past. Little tidbits dropped in that you can kind of fill in the blanks around. But I don't know. I have read through Episode 10, and I have no idea what happens 11-16, so I think I'm definitely going to flat out ask him what that is … and if Mark Ruffalo is available. [Laughs]

Well, obviously! We fell in love with him in The Avengers.
Oh my god. I fell in love with him. … Well, You Can Count on Me. And also [The Kids Are Alright].

We haven't seen that yet.
If you have a crush on him, then that will be a very satisfying movie! [Laughs]

Are there any guest stars you are really hoping appear on the show?
Everybody and anybody! I can say that I was lucky enough to do a play with Kathleen Turner, and we had lunch a few weeks ago, and she said that she had seen all the episodes and that she was a fan of the show. So of course immediately I was like would you … come do it? So I told our producers and they were like, "Wow that would be amazing, if the right role comes up, that would be great!"

And I also, I have so many friends that I can think of that would just rock on the show, and it would be so fun to have them come up here to Toronto. So my ideas are purely selfish.

You mentioned Donna's romantic past. Will we be getting more hints about that this season?
Yes. There's an opportunity for the topic of her past love life to come up in a more public forum at Pearson Hardman. The subject gets broached, and it's not necessarily a comfortable topic. It definitely comes up, and I found it really interesting, because it's just more and more information for me to piece together, more details of Donna's past. I have a pretty clear idea of stuff, but it's always interesting to see what the writers come up with, too. But I do want to find out if there's a love interesting down the pipes for her.

I think a lot of fans would really like to see that for her.
What kind of guy do you think it would be? Or gal!

She needs someone who gives it as good as they get. She's so strong, and we think she wouldn't want someone who would just bow to that all the time.
Absolutely. I wonder if that person would also be an artsy type.

We could see that. She would probably enjoy having someone outside of the corporate world.
Yeah, totally.

Are there any cast members you would like to have more scenes with?
Oh, that's a great question. I have such great stuff with Harvey and Mike and Louis. And then Donna and Rachel's relationship is developing, which is so nice, to have that girlfriend thing going on. I think I've only really had two scene with Jessica, who of course, you know, it would be really fun for me to have more scenes with Gina [Torres], just because it's fun to work with her and be on set with her. We spend a lot of time off set together, so it would be fun.

But you know, I haven't really had much interaction with Harold, and that could be pretty fun! Maybe torturing Harold, in some really fun way. In a fun different way then — maybe a kinder, sillier torture than she likes to, or would like to, inflict on Louis.

Is there anywhere you'd really like to See Donna's story go?
Well I have to say, and looking forward through Episode 10, I'm always really thrilled with where they've taken Donna without any of my input or wishing or putting it out there. I really appreciate how they're exploring these relationships, almost more than storylines, for me, if that makes any sense.

We get to have a flashback episode, and that really illuminates Harvey and Donna's relationship a few years back, and that's really great. You see the day that Rachel and Donna met. And going forward Mike's character starts to go through some rough times, and Donna really cares about him, and wants to nurture him, and that kind of thing. I really appreciate those kinds of things.

I think it would be fun, though — you kinda got me thinking with your other question — I hadn't thought about this before, but it would be fun to see Donna interact maybe in  a pseudo-professional way, in a lawyerly way. Like maybe have more interactions with the guest stars who are part of the case, or have more influence on a case, or something like that. To actually impact the story in that way. But in the meantime, I'm kind of really enjoying how she really just impacts the relationships in the firm. She's a real people person.

What episode is the flashback?
I think it's Episode 8.

Part of the reason people love Donna so much is she's so funny. Do you have a personal favorite Donna line or scene?
Oh, yeah! The first time she messed with Louis, when she said "it's like my soul hurts now," in the first season when he came to her desk and he wanted to borrow her from Harvey.

And she fake cries!
And she fake cries, yeah. [Laughs] It's so funny to me, because I'd been imagining in my head that Donna had maybe been like an actress before she was a temp and then became really great as an executive assistant and then met Harvey and then her career path changed. So then they wrote that. And then I talked to our creator and he was like, "we think she was an actress." And I was like, that's so funny! And that kind of started the ball rolling on her having a lot of roleplay with different characters.

That was a memorable scene. It's one of the first times where it's really clear that Donna always gets what she wants.
And she has a fun time getting it.
