It's on, it's off, it's on again — the TV gods need to stop playing with our Carrie-lovin' hearts!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW is moving forward with the rumored Sex and the City prequel, based on the book series The Carrie Diaries, which are, well, prequels to the book Sex and the City.

In case you're curious, the books start with Carrie's senior year in high school, which was spent in — *gasp* — a location that is not New York City, and then follow her during her first summer in the city.

While Sex and the City producer Michael Patrick King is not associated with the new show — given his negative feelings about the idea, that's not a surprise — Amy B. Harris, a former Sex and the City writer, will apparently work as showrunner on the new project. Plus, the show's being produced by the same production company that brought us Gossip Girl.

The idea of Carrie Bradshaw as a teen (and not in NYC!) weirds us out, but the team behind the show sounds promising. For now, we're cautiously optimistic in saying that this could turn into something worth watching.
