Tom Cruise "Sad" But Not "Bitter" About Divorce, Wonders “What Did I Not See?” — Report

It's time for Tom Cruise to take center stage in the TomKat divorce saga.

Last week, People magazine put Katie Holmes on the cover with her little Mona Lisa smile teasing "Secrets of the Split.”

Now Tom's not-so-happy face is staring out of newsstands with the headline "Tom's Shattered World."

Tom was blindsided when Katie filed for divorce at the end of June. According to "a source who knows the former couple," Tom "was thinking 'What did I not see?'"

Tom reportedly wanted to see their daughter Suri "as fast as possible since this started" but he couldn't just walk away from his obligations on the film Oblivion.

Why did he and Katie settle their divorce in just 11 days? "Tom tried his best to do what's right for Suri," Tom's longtime friend and lawyer Bert Fields told People. He added that Tom is "sad" but not "bitter" about the split.

What about Scientology's place in this whole situation — and in Tom's future life with Suri? "Tom is not ashamed of his beliefs," says the source who knows the former couple, "and won’t hide them from his daughter."

Tom reportedly has no limit on his contact with Suri, who is set to enroll in Catholic school in New York City. If he really wants to score brownie points with Miss Crankypants, he should get her that puppy she wants.
