Robbie Rogers is opening up for the first time about being gay.
The 25-year-old soccer player who has played on the U.S. National team and in the Major League Soccer league is retiring from the sport and confirming that he's gay.
"For the past 25 years I have been afraid, afraid to show whom I really was because of fear," Robbie writes on his blog on February 15.
"Try explaining to your loved ones after 25 years, you are gay," he continues.
He sounds relieved to know longer be keeping his sexual orientation a secret.
"My secret is gone, I am a free man, I can move on and live my life as my creator intended," he writes.
Robbie won the MLS Cup with his Columbus Crew team in 2008.
