While cleaning up at the Grammy Awards on February 12, Adele revealed in her Album of the Year acceptance speech that her honored album, 21, was inspired by “a rubbish relationship.” As coy as she’s been, The New York Post revealed that it’s an “open secret” that the heartbreaker in question is a musician who goes by Slinky Sunbeam, also known as Slinky Winfield. Yes, we said “Slinky.”

An insider spills that Adele was very taken with his charm (which clearly doesn’t include his name). “It’s easy to see why,” says the source. “He’s a really popular guy, the life and soul of the party, and he’s a musician as well.”

In fact, they met through the South London art scene after she had already produced several hits. The Grammy-winning singer has claimed they “grew apart” over time, but insiders believe there’s more to the story. Apparently, her now-ex wasn’t “the kind of guy you can tie down,” and his involvement with a Burberry model was what really brought about the end.

Although it was painful for her at the time, Adele now admits that the break-up changed her life. By channeling her pain into 21, she was able to forgive him — and write one hell of an album. Plus, it couldn’t have hurt that she moved on with her current boyfriend, Simon Konecki.
