Amber Riley and Lea Michele During Rehearsals For Glee’s “Wheels” (2009)
When a show features multiple dance numbers per episode, its cast members are bound to sustain an injury or two. Add wheelchairs to the mix, and it’s a recipe for (humorous) disaster.
Back in June 2011, Glee choreographer Zach Woodlee revealed to the Huffington Post that he has a “bruise wall,” explaining, “It’s where we showcase everyone’s injuries.”
Two highlights hail from Season 1’s “Wheels” episode, in which the entire New Directions ensemble takes to wheelchairs in support of Kevin McHale’s Artie. At one point during rehearsals, Amber Riley (Mercedes) got out of control going down a ramp and toppled over, and then Lea Michele (Rachel) came down hard on the back of her head while trying to pop a wheelie.
