The aftermath: After the video leaked, Rick Salomon sued the distributor and the Hilton family for making it seem as if he had taken advantage of Paris. Paris fought back, suing the company that released the tape, Kahatani Ltd., for $30 million for violation of privacy and emotional distress. Sneaky Salomon then began peddling the tape through adult film company Red Light District Video under the oh-so-clever title 1 Night in Paris. Once Paris’s privacy lawsuit was thrown out of court, Red Light District Video settled with the socialite in July 2005 to the tune of $400,000 plus a percentage of the profits.
In the meantime, the video has sold upwards of one million copies — and Paris has achieved an entirely new level of fame.
