2012-2013 TV Preview: 11 New Female-Driven Shows

Whether they’re helmed by a female showrunner/creator, revolve around a strong female character, or both, these 11 new shows prove that TV is populated by some serious entertaining women — in front of and behind the camera.

But it’s important to acknowledge that these lady-powered series offer far more than an essential “femaleness.”

This past May, Up All Night creator Emily Spivey explained to Vulture, “You know, shows are for humans and movies are for humans. They’re not for men or women, and whether it’s created by a man or woman — hopefully it’s created by a human! And other humans will enjoy it, be they male or female.”

Basically, it’s all about entertainment.
