David Tennant — Doctor Who
OK, David Tennant isn't actually on Doctor Who these days, but we suspect this adorkable Scott will be back for the 50th anniversary special, so it counts, right?
Anyway, Doctor Who is a must-see for anyone who loves adventure and fun. The story of a time-travelling alien who can change his appearance and the brave folks who travel with him, Doctor Who has been a British genre classic since early '60s. Really. Its strength lies in its ability to reinvent itself — one week it'll be a cheesy sci-fi spectacle (dinosaurs on a spaceship!), the next a metaphysical reflection on human weakness and the power of groupthink. But, as unpredictable as it is, there's always one thing you can count on in the Doctor Who world: every episode will have a lot of heart.
How much is there? The series re-booted in 2005, and that's probably the best place to start. There are six completed seasons of around 13 episodes each, plus holiday specials. The seventh season is currently airing.
How you can watch: The first six seasons are available on Netflix. The current season airs on BBC America Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
