In order to skirt child labor laws — a common practice for young actors — Juliette Lewis was legally emancipated from her parents when she was 14. However, the move led many to wrongly assume she wasn’t getting along with her mom and dad. The Natural Born Killers star later told Stella magazine (via Starpulse), “That still bothers me because it was down to me and my big mouth going, ‘Oh, I live on my own! I got emancipated!’ not knowing how that would be taken as a division between me and my parents.”

“The truth is that it's something very common that you did when you were acting very young and my parents actually helped me to do that,” she added. “My parents are just the best.”
