Abstinence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
Sometimes it seems like there are more TV teen couples abstaining from sex than actually doing the deed. While certain couples elect to wait for marriage, such as Corey (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) on Boy Meets World, others wait for the perfect time to take it to the next level — like Beverly Hills, 90210’s Donna (Tori Spelling) and David (Brian Austin Green)... and pretty much everyone on Gossip Girl.
In a surprise twist, we thought The O.C.’s Marissa (Mischa Barton) and Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) were having sex all along, only to find out in Season 3 that they’d done a lot of stuff between the sheets but hadn’t gone all the way. (Similarly, everyone thought Summer was easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy, but she was actually deflowered by Seth Cohen.)
On One Tree Hill, Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) is determined to hold onto her v-card until marriage. So she ties the knot with Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), the object of her sexual attraction, at the end of their junior year of high school. That’s one way to keep the pledge...
Given all those raging hormones, it’s highly rare for chastity vows last the length of a show. Jonesing for a little affection, the guys in these sexless relationships occasionally cheat. (We’ll never forgive you, Jordan Catalono!) And then there’s Glee’s celibacy club, which falls apart as quickly as it takes its president to get knocked up while drunk on wine coolers.
