Christian Bale Then and Now: From Newsies to The Dark Knight Rises
Christian Bale has been in Hollywood for over two decades now, and he’s starred in everything from a musical (Newsies) to a gory horror (American Psycho) to an Oscar-winning drama (The Fighter).
Famously outspoken, the 38-year-old Welsh-born actor is known for transforming himself for roles, sometimes to a terrifying/majorly unhealthy degree.
Actors may be a dime a dozen, but there’s only one Christian Bale — a notion director Christopher Nolan summed up perfectly to the New York Times: “One of the great things about Christian is his refreshing lack of ego. He figures out how he can be useful to the storytelling. That often means he’s a very generous performer, somebody who’s playing the part with integrity, not to show what he can do.”
