Desperate Housewives: From the Premiere to the Series Finale — Then and Now

So long, Wisteria Lane! We’re pretty sure no other suburban street in the country has seen quite as much scheme-tastic drama, scandal, and death. These women own it.

Desperate Housewives is wrapping its eight-season run tonight, March 13, with a two-part series finale, “Give Me the Blame” and “Finishing the Hat.”

In the show’s closing double-header, which will air from 9-11 p.m. ET, Bree’s (Marcia Cross) murder trial takes a turn for the worse, and Susan (Teri Hatcher) tries to keep the sale of her house private until she's had a chance to break the news to the ladies. Meanwhile, Lynette (Felicity Huffman) receives an intriguing job offer; Julie (Andrea Bowen) goes into labor at an inopportune time; and Ben (Charles Mesure) gets arrested — right before his and Renee’s (Vanessa Williams) wedding.

In a recent interview with Parade, Felicity Huffman hints at some flashes forward. “You get a good sense of where each character is going to go and it's very fun and really appropriate. You go, ‘Oh yes, of course that is what she should be doing in 20 years or next year.’ The satisfaction comes from seeing where the characters end up and where they might be in the future.”

Since premiering on October 3, 2004, to an impressive 21 million viewers, Marc Cherry’s primetime soap has racked up numerous awards — including the 2005 and 2006 Golden Globes for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy — and even a wrongful termination lawsuit, courtesy of killed-off housewife Nicollette Sheridan (Edie). Despite waning popularity in recent seasons, the show has remained an ABC primetime staple. At least until now.
"Marc [Cherry] takes those American family moments and then pushes them just that extra bit, but not in order to destroy them. Just to be fun and a little wicked," Felicity explains to Variety.

As we say goodbye to TV’s most drama-prone housewives (seriously, they give Bravo’s “real” ones a run for their money), let’s take a look at how the four leading ladies have changed over the 7+ years since their mega-hit premiere.
