Teri Hatcher: Susan Mayer
Although Teri Hatcher, 47, was already a familiar face on the small screen, having made it big on the mid-’90s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Desperate Housewives launched her into a new stratosphere of TV fame.
In 2005, thanks to her portrayal of klutzy single mom Susan, Teri earned an Emmy nomination, won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, and nabbed the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series. During her Golden Globe acceptance speech, she charmed America when she thanked ABC for casting her “when I couldn’t have been a bigger has-been.”
In later seasons, however, rumors began to swirl that Teri was feuding with her co-stars. When asked about this supposed on-set tension on the Late Show earlier this week, Eva Longoria shrugged it off, saying, “We all get along. Everybody says that [we don’t].” (And yet Eva, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Vanessa Williams apparently gave the crew thank-you gifts without bringing Teri in on their plan. Suspicious, no?)
Real-life drama aside, Teri is excited for everyone to see the finale. She recently told People, "I feel like [the finale] does a pretty good job at honoring all the different characters and their sort of unique wheelhouses that they brought [...] to Desperate Housewives. Whether it be comedy or drama or physical comedy, I feel like the stories make sense. I think it will be better than some other big finales."
Off the show, Teri, who has a 14-year-old daughter from her second marriage, has dated a range of guys — from American Idol host Ryan Seacrest to director Stephen Kay (one of Eva’s former boyfriends) — but she hasn’t yet found Mr. Right. She’s also an author, having released a memoir in 2006 titled Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life.
