In addition to being the older brother of “America’s Sweetheart,” Eric is father to budding actress Emma Roberts. But he’s probably better known for his struggles with substance abuse than his work as an actor.

Eric’s first big brush with the law happened in 1987, when he was arrested for possession of marijuana and cocaine, as well as for resisting arrest and trying to assault a New York police officer. The charges were ultimately dropped. In 1995 police were called when Eric shoved his wife, Eliza Garrett, into a wall. He was released after Eliza declined to press charges.

In 2010, Eric notably appeared on Season 4 of Celebrity Rehab to treat his medical marijuana dependency.

Despite being estranged from sister Julia for several years, the two reconciled after the birth of her twins in 2004.
