2012 Summer Olympics: Gymnastics' Fab Five Win Gold, Michael Phelps Sets a New Record
The 2012 Summer Olympics got off to a splendid start in London this past week with an intricate opening ceremony that culminated with fireworks and a live performance from Sir Paul McCartney of the Beatles. The real excitement, however, came from the Fab Five, aka the U.S. Women's Gymnastic team, who took home gold for the first time in 16 years and only the second time ever. Gabby Douglas, one of the five, also won the gold medal in the individual all-around competition. Congrats, miniature tank-like ladies!
In other medal-winning news, swimmer Michael Phelps nabbed his 18th and 19th medals on July 31, making him the Olympian with the most medals ever. After his final race of the games — the 4x100m medley relay, in which he won gold — he had 22. But here’s the real question: Who looks better shirtless — Michael or Ryan Lochte?
If you want to check out some of the games, which include American Idol's Ryan Seacrest as a correspondent, click here for the full schedule of events.
