Michael Phelps on Day 4 of the London 2012 Olympics
Now: On July 31, Michael Phelps became the Olympian with the most medals ever — a whopping 19 — when he won silver in the 200m butterfly and gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay. But he didn’t stop there: With golds in the 200m IM, 100m butterfly, and 4x100m medley relay, he upped his count to 22.
Arguably the world’s most recognizable swimmer, the 27-year-old athlete also holds the Olympic record for most gold medals (18). He’s a pretty big deal.
