Cher in Bob Mackie at the 1986 Academy Awards
Leave it to Cher to put together an Oscars ensemble so over-the-top as this Bob Mackie couture creation. The Art Deco-inspired outfit — complete with a two-foot tall headpiece made entirely out of rooster feathers — was Cher’s response to the Academy after being told they didn’t take her seriously enough to nominate her for the 1985 film Mask. She says it’s still one of her favorite looks to date, and it’s no wonder: No one loves camp quite like the Goddess of Pop!
