Teen Mom 2’s Kailyn Lowry Interviewed By The New York Times!

Teen Mom 2's Kailyn Lowry has always been a sophisticated lady, and now she's rubbing elbows with New York City's most reputable publication. Naturally we're talking about The New York Times, who are so impressed by Kailyn's fight to lower teen pregnancy rates that they interviewed her!

Apparently, a new study of Nielsen television ratings (out this week!) shows that 16 and Pregnant and its Teen Mom spin-offs may have helped prevent more than 20k teenage pregnancies in 2010 alone. This is an amazing statistic, and Kailyn should definitely be proud. Of course, this gal's life is pretty great despite her unplanned pregnancy.

"I did get two awesome blessings,” Kailyn (who recently welcomed her second child) told The New York Times. “But I still haven’t gotten my bachelor’s degree, because, one, day care is so expensive and, two, how do you balance studying and having little ones at home?”

Kailyn's struggle is real, and despite the fact that she's made an amazing life for herself, her involvement in reality television has prevented other teens from getting pregnant. “It’s thrilling,” says the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy's Sarah S. Brown. “People just don’t understand how influential media is in the lives of young people.”

The new study (which found that teen pregnancy declined faster in areas where teens were watching MTV) goes a long way in shooting down theories that Teen Mom glamorizes pregnancy, and proves just how important sex education is. Way to go, Kailyn!
