What was believed to be gunfire briefly interrupted a live outdoor television broadcast from the Cannes Film Festival Friday.

Actors Christoph Waltz and Daniel Auteuil were some of the guests being interviewed on the Canal Plus program Le Grand Journal, but when what sounde like gunfire rang out, it sent crew and spectators running for cover.

Footage of the happening showed the scramble and a voice saying "there's someone shooting."

But don't worry, neither the crowd nor the Academy Award winner were injured. When the show resumed a few minutes later, host Michel Denisot said the noise had been caused by blanks.

There were no reports of injuries, but photographs of the situation (seen here) show a man being wrestled to the ground by police near the stage beside Cannes' seafront promenade, the Croisette.

A local newspaper, Nice-Matin, reports that a man was detained by police with a starter's pistol, pocket knife, and a plastic grenade.

Is there not top-notch security at the Cannes Film Festival? We're glad everyone is okay!
