Melissa McCarthy is now shooting the film Tammy, which co-stars Susan Sarandon. Melissa has the title role, and she’s also the co-writer/director, along with her husband Ben Falcone.

Filming is underway now in the Wilmington, N.C. area. According to TMZ, an “extra” in her 20s brought her child (age around 4 or 5) to the daylong shoot by a lake in Boiling Spring Lakes, N.C. Witnesses told TMZ the woman had been struggling with her child, telling the kid to “stop it” and quiet down often enough to disrupt production.

Apparently things came to a head when Melissa saw the mother roughly grab the child up in the air by the wrist. Melissa reportedly had production assistants remove the woman, saying she won’t tolerate abuse on her set. (Go Melissa!) So basically the woman was fired as an extra, which reportedly only pays about $58 anyway, but still. Maybe the mom really needed that money, but it sounds like that set was no place for a kid ... or an impatient parent.
