We basically want to applaud every time we even glimpse Ryan Gosling's beautiful, beautiful face. Apparently, not everyone feels the same way.
The Gos has a dark new movie called Only God Forgives at the Cannes Film Festival, and it was loudly booed during its May 22 premiere at the festival, according to Vulture.
Ryan and his Drive director have reunited to make this film, in which Ryan plays a drug smuggler in Bangkok who searches for his brother's killer.
And saying that the ultra-violent drama was not warmly received would be putting it nicely.
"When one character stuck his hand inside a woman’s slashed body, the audience locked and loaded its boos," Vulture reports. "Gosling doesn’t have much to say in this movie, but the auditorium sure did."
Wow. We seriously can't imagine having a single complaint about a movie that R-Gos is in. That said, a movie that involves people playing with women's corpses is not exactly a crowd-pleaser.
Despite being the most perfect man ever created (yes, it's a fact), Ryan has had a little trouble at the box office of late. Gangster Squad was a huge flop in January, and his recent The Place Beyond the Pines didn't make much of a splash, despite starring Ry-Ry and Bradley Cooper. That's an awful lot of eye candy in one movie.
Still, Cannes audiences love to boo, so maybe this latest instance isn't a cause for alarm.
So will the film — which is due to be released in the U.S. later this year — get edited to be a bit less polarizing? Or is the Cannes crowd just hard to please?
In the meantime, we're about to go rewatch The Notebook for the 14,278th time. Don't judge.
