UPDATE: Maybe not? Later on May 24, Jimmy tweeted, "Contrary to 'news' reports, I didn't buy the Bea Arthur painting - not even for @realjeffreyross - but I did buy the Mona Lisa Lampanelli."
The sign of true best friendship? When your buddy buys you a $1.9 million painting of a nude woman who, at the time the portrait was painted, was in her 70s.
We reported last week that a nude portrait of the no-nonsense Golden Girls star Bea Arthur, painted in 1991 by John Currin, had sold for almost $2 million at auction. Now, because dreams do come true, we may know the name of the buyer: one Jimmy Kimmel.
No, he's not a Bea Arthur fanatic. But he is a really, really generous friend!
The apparent owner of the painting is Jimmy's friend, comedian Jeffrey Ross, who outed Jimmy as the probable buyer on Twitter:
Gawker reported on the story, noting that Jimmy's people haven't officially confirmed that he's the buyer of the painting yet. But if he is, that will make us very, very happy.
Jimmy is the host of late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Now we know what's inside that biggest gift! Would you be stoked to get this painting as a present?
